Questions on Raising Kids
ByHere are some questions about parenting from a guy with no kids, so… take it for what it may be worth to you.
More and more it seems to me that in order to grow spiritually mature we need to be stepping out and taking risks, facing our fears, and ACTUALLY trusting God with our lives. We need to be moving our lives in the direction of having no other options open but for God to work.
There is the question, if this stuff is true then how should parenting be done? Can you sense the tension here? There is a natural instinct to protect our children, stronger than I can even know at this point in my life. How do we teach our children to depend TOTALLY on God, how do we teach children to be risk takers? How do we teach children to follow in the footsteps of:
- Abraham trusting God with Isaac
- Moses trusting God with pharaoh
- David trusting God to face Goliath
- Daniel trusting God to be thrown in the lions’ den
- Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusting God to be put in the furnace
- Esther trusting God as she approached the king
- Jesus trusting God in the wilderness, in his arrest, and in his crucifixion
