Prepping Seniors for College

By Chris

The bad news is that it is already way to late in your time with seniors at your church to help them really get ready for college.  This does not mean that you can’t help them and at the same time work toward doing a way better job of helping your seniors next year!

A couple things to think about when prepping seniors:

  • They need to be challenged on what they believe.  If they don’t feel the freedom to deal with their doubts and continually ask questions their faith will never deepen.
  • Help them learn what to expect when they show up on campus.  Thinking through how they will react when there are no friends around, the credit card apps come rolling in, the beer starts flowing, and reading a bio book competes with reading the Bible will go a long way to heading them in the right direction.
  • Every time you deal with an issue that comes up in small group discussion, talk about what it would mean in a college setting.  Help your students build a theology for where they will be living instead of where they used to be living!
  • Help your students come up with a two week “script.”  How will they connect with other believers? How will they live missionally on campus?  How will they use their study time?  How will they spend money?
  • Check out LiveAbove.com, it is a great resource for helping you and your students.  Make sure you surf all around that site and order the free DVD off of the resource page!

What suggestions would you offer?
