Making A Difference
ByThe word that is coming through from all the tweets is that Rick Warren spoke this morning at his “stealth” invitation only conference (Purpose Driven Summit 2008.) It sounded like he heavily pushed his P.E.A.C.E plan and an interesting statistic caught my eye. It seems that to date, Saddleback has sent out over 8,000 people over seas on mission trips.
My first reaction was, “Of course, they are a HUGE church! It’s easy for them to send so many people and they have the budget for it too!” Then I checked my attitude and put my superb math skills to work. That is when I realized that over 25% of the weekend attendance at Saddleback has gone somewhere in the world to help to bring justice and end oppressions of all different types.
It is all relative, if you are part of a church of around 400, have over 100 of your people been out making a difference? If you are a church of 40, have more than 10 of your people been out in other parts of the world making a real difference? Well, if you are average the numbers don’t look good in comparison to Saddleback, right? That is because our churches head in the direction that God is sending its’ leaders.
Are you following where God is leading? I know I have been pushed to think about that question!
