Less complaining, more doing!
ByYou may have heard the news over the past week that Starbucks is closing 600 underperforming stores and is slowing the pace of opening new stores to only 200 in the upcoming year, and cutting nearly 12,000 positions in order to stay “leaner” in the this economic climate. Anyway, I came across this story yesterday and learned that apparently there are people out there that are actually happy about this. It seems that these people are not anti-coffee or anything like that. In fact, the people that are the most outspoken about being happy that Starbucks seems to have hit a “wall” are people that would most likely consider themselves coffee connoisseurs.
Here is where this rubs me the wrong way. In reading about this I couldn’t help but think of all the people out there that make a lot of noise in attacking the mega-churches. Why do people spend so much time and effort being against things, churches or Starbucks? To me, it makes even less sense in the church world. God has trusted you and me with being a part of helping people find their way to Him in our our little part of the world. Let’s worry more about what we can do to be more loving and more relevant in our communities and less time worrying about what other people are doing in other places.
PS- This is also extremely dumb for coffee lovers! Why complain about Starbucks? Do you want to keep your little “coffee lover community” small and exclusive? Starbucks has introduced so many people new people to the coffee world which has expanded the coffee market. A larger market for coffee has made high quality coffees more accessible and cheaper! Quit complaining and be happy about what Starbucks has done to help you even though you don’t like their coffee! I won’t even get started on these complainers and their lack of compassion for the nearly 12,000 people that will be losing their jobs!
