A little off topic but…
ByIf you can help, please do.
Liverpool Community Church is asking General Mills, through their Hometown Helper program, to help finance renovations for the neighborhood playground. You can help out by being a cheerleader for the project.
All you have to do is go online to this web site.
Then scroll down to the comment area, where you can leave a positive comment.
The deadline is Tuesday, April 1 so we have to be quick about it.
I appreciate your help. Here is some more info from the Hometown Helper site:
There’s a fabulous playground in Liverpool, NY, in danger of closing because of a toxic environment created years ago and today’s high cost of living.
The 6,400-square-foot play area at Liverpool Community Church is special because:
1) It’s completely accessible to children ages 2 to 12 with disabilities.
2) It’s heavily used. Surveys show 174 kids use the playground regularly. Even more have access, because it’s centrally located to a school district with 786 students in pre-K through sixth grades. Of those, 120 have disabilities.
3) It’s the only fenced playground within a 50-mile radius serving children ages 2 to 5 with disabilities.
Unfortunately, we’ve discovered the 17-year-old wooden equipment is preserved with a toxic compound. Experts say we must replace the wood, install new groundcover and repair the fence. The cost: $83,000.
That’s where Hamburger Help can help. One foundation has already committed $2,000 and, through a community-based committee, we’re reaching out to other corporate and philanthropic neighbors.
We’re pursuing repairs because of our desire to be a good neighbor. According to a 2003 Gallup study, a neighborhood playground is a dwindling American resource. In April 2007, the Rand Corporation linked a growing number of closed playgrounds to a growth in childhood obesity.
And play is so important to optimal child development that it has been recognized by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights as a right of every child.
Help us preserve that right.
