10 Tips For Missional Youth Ministry (7-8)
By7. Be on guard.
As you and your teenagers work alongside the King to extend His Kingdom, our spiritual enemy will attack. One of the most important things that we can teach our students is how to guard their hearts in holiness. We need to teach them how to filter and understand the world around them. We need to teach them the importance of community in their relationship with Jesus, there is a huge difference between a personal relationship with God and a private relationship with God. It is easy to get into a ton of trouble when we make thinks private.
8. Live missionally at home.
Family is the first place for the mission of God in each of our lives.
This is a super-tough one for teenagers but if we can help them to grasp the importance of “going the extra mile” at home and sacrificially loving their family, they will not only be impacting their family but everyone who comes into contact with their family.
Perhaps one of the best ways to help students begin to live missionally at home is to help them to understand the pressures and stresses that their parents are under. Spend some time helping teens to think this stuff through and help them to remember that even though they wonder why they got stuck with their family, sometimes their family may be wondering why they got stuck with them.
